STRAIGHT OUTTA CLEVELAND
Tamara Fruits was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. At the age of 19 she dropped out of college and by the age of 20 she had moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue her dreams.
How was it growing up in Cleveland?
It is a beautiful place and it is home. It's definitely not perfect. One thing I love about Cleveland is it is full of raw talent. I just believe once we teach our youth to tap into the talent they have and follow it wholeheartedly the opportunities are endless.
Was it hard for you to tap into your talent?
Yes and no. I always loved being creative and active at a young age. I was a little shy at first, but once you get over that its like whatever, I'm good at what I do.
What are you passionate about?
Besides being passionate about God and my family, its so much more. I love to dance. That was definitely my first love, I started at a young age and fell in love with the rhythm and music. I haven't danced in so long, besides around my home or while blasting music in my car. Partly because of constantly comparing myself to others and the lack of belief I had in myself. It's definitely something I plan to dive back into, I miss it and I'm learning how to enjoy it again. I would hate to be that person who grows old and bitter because of what could of been.
Modeling, is what I've been focusing on the last couple of years. I think when we all hear the word “model” a certain stereotype comes to our mind: tall, beautiful, high cheek bones, glowing skin, and plenty of more. Growing up a kid, that is what I inspired to be. It took me a long time to understand that we are all created amazingly different in our own way. We are all beautiful and each feature about ourselves is what makes us who we are individually. Now that I am older I want to be an example. There are a million of younger girls that don’t feel comfortable in their own skin, women too. Although people say I do not fit the norm as a “model” that has not stopped me from going after my dreams. Moving to Los Angeles and creating my own path and destiny has been one of my most proud moments.
FASHION. I love styling myself and you can visit the style section to see my everyday looks I come up with. I have a brand called On the Third which is an online store that sells the best fashion (www.onthethird.co).
Also, something that I fell in love with is acting. Its definitely a passion of mine and I'm enjoying learning, perfecting, and being a student of the craft. Being vulnerable used to scare the HELL out of me. However, one of the biggest things I want people to feel when they see my art is my heart. I want them to be able to have hope, to connect, to relate, to escape, and to know they are not alone. You will definitely see me in your favorite television show or film in the near future.
I also love music rap, R&B, soul, etc,. but singing is definitely not a talent of mine lol.
What's one thing you want people to take away?
Keep God first in everything you do. Show gratitude. Believe in yourself. Others believing in you, is not going to motivate you. You have to stay hungry. Create a plan, write it down and go after what you want regardless of how many times you hear "no". You have to continue to work on yourself it is a daily process. The worse thing you can do is compare yourself to someone, its not healthy at all. It's your life and at the end of it you have to answer to yourself.
What was your purpose for creating this site?
I am building a brand for myself. I wanted to have a place where people could go and see what I'm about. I know you can't figure someone out through the internet but this way you will catch a glimpse. A glimpse of who I am, what I love, what I represent, and in the way that I choose to show you. I thank you all for visiting, stay in touch. xoxo Tam
